In virtù dei suoi studi con tre insegnanti di scuola mitteleuropea tedesca e russa del calibro di
Vladimir Natanson, Paul Baumgartner e Mieczyslaw Horszowski, e della collaborazione
quindicennale con Norbert Brainin (leader del leggendario Quartetto Amadeus) Carlo Levi Minzi si
posiziona nel segno di continuità e prosecuzione di una tradizione che affonda le sue radici nella
storia della composizione e dell’interpretazione. Alla formazione di questo pianista dalle vaste
vedute hanno contribuito significativamente anche studi di composizione, direzione d’orchestra e
di analisi musicale, circostanze che gli permettono di tenere concerti nella doppia veste di solista e
direttore, nel solco della più nobile tradizione mitteleuropea.  Il repertorio di Carlo Levi Minzi si
sviluppa in maniera consimile a quello del suo maestro Paul Baumgartner, pianista che
padroneggiava l’integrale di Beethoven, Schubert e Schumann, ma anche di Schönberg, di cui fu
uno dei primi esecutori del Concerto per pianoforte e orchestra.
Analogamente, quindi, Carlo Levi Minzi suona l’integrale delle Sonate di Mozart  Beethoven,
Schubert e Skrjabin e più di sessanta concerti per pianoforte e orchestra, oltre a un repertorio
significativo di musica non molto nota, tra cui Das Jahr di Fanny Mendelssohn, il Concerto op. 18 di
Hermann Goetz e la Sonata di Boris Pasternak e di numerosi autori del XX secolo tra cui
Schönberg, Bartok, Debussy, Prokofiev e di suoi contemporanei. Carlo Levi Minzi, forte della sua
formazione, ha anche completato e registrato una Sonata di Franz Schubert (D 571,604, 570) e
tradotto Die Kunst des Vortrags di Heinrich Schenker (ed. Rugginenti).
Ha insegnato al Conservatorio di Milano. Suoi allievi sono ora docenti in vari Conservatori.

Thanks to his studies with three teachers of the German and Russian Central European school –
Vladimir Natanson, Paul Baumgartner and Mieczyslaw Horszowski – and his fifteen-year
collaboration with Norbert Brainin (leader of the legendary Amadeus Quartet), Carlo Levi Minzi
stands as a figure embodying the continuity and continuation of a tradition rooted in the history of
composition and performance. Studies in composition, conducting and musical analysis have also
contributed significantly to the development of this broad-minded pianist, enabling him to
perform in the dual role of soloist and conductor, in the finest Central European tradition. Carlo
Levi Minzi’s repertoire is similar to that of his mentor Paul Baumgartner, a pianist who mastered
the complete works of Beethoven, Schubert and Schumann, as well as those of Schönberg, of
whom he was one of the first performers of the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra.
Similarly, then, Carlo Levi Minzi performs the complete sonatas of Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert
and Scriabin, as well as more than sixty concertos for piano and orchestra, alongside a significant
repertoire of lesser-known works, including Fanny Mendelssohn’s Das Jahr, Hermann Goetz’s
Concerto Op. 18 and Boris Pasternak’s Sonata, and works by numerous 20th-century composers
such as Schoenberg, Bartók, Debussy, Prokofiev and his contemporaries. Carlo Levi Minzi, drawing
on his training, has also completed and recorded a Sonata by Franz Schubert (D 571, 604, 570) and
translated Heinrich Schenker’s Die Kunst des Vortrags (published by Rugginenti).

Dank seines Studiums bei drei bedeutenden Lehrern der mitteleuropäischen, deutschen und
russischen Schule – Vladimir Natanson, Paul Baumgartner und Mieczyslaw Horszowski – sowie
seiner fünfzehnjährigen Zusammenarbeit mit Norbert Brainin (Leiter des legendären Amadeus-
Quartetts) steht Carlo Levi Minzi in der Tradition einer Kontinuität und Weiterführung, die ihre
Wurzeln in der Geschichte der Komposition und der Interpretation hat. Maßgeblich zur Ausbildung
dieses weitblickenden Pianisten haben auch Studien in Komposition, Orchesterleitung und
Musikanalyse beigetragen, was es ihm ermöglicht, Konzerte in der doppelten Rolle als Solist und
Dirigent zu geben, ganz im Sinne der edelsten mitteleuropäischen Tradition. Das Repertoire von
Carlo Levi Minzi entwickelt sich ähnlich wie das seines Lehrers Paul Baumgartner, eines Pianisten,

Ebenso spielt Carlo Levi Minzi das Gesamtwerk der Sonaten von Mozart, Beethoven, Schuberts
und Skrjabins sowie mehr als sechzig Konzerte für Klavier und Orchester, dazu ein bedeutendes
Repertoire an weniger bekannter Musik, darunter Das Jahr von Fanny Mendelssohn, das Konzert
op. 18 von Hermann Goetz und die Sonate von Boris Pasternak sowie Werke zahlreicher
Komponisten des 20. Jahrhunderts, darunter Schönberg, Bartók, Debussy, Prokofjew und seiner
Zeitgenossen. Carlo Levi Minzi hat dank seiner fundierten Ausbildung zudem eine Sonate von
Franz Schubert (D 571, 604, 570) vervollständigt und aufgenommen sowie Die Kunst des Vortrags
von Heinrich Schenker (Hrsg. Rugginenti) übersetzt.
Er unterrichtete am Konservatorium von Mailand. Seine Schüler sind heute Dozenten an
verschiedenen Musikhochschulen. Als Pädagoge, hat er Meisterkurse in Europa, Asien und
Amerika gegeben. Derzeit nimmt er für Urania Records und Tactus auf.
